Online Dating – Don’t Forget, Its Supposed To Be Fun

There is so much information about dating and internet dating out there. Everyone is an expert. Have you noticed though most of the advice is all doom and gloom. How to avoid this disaster, how to recognise that scam. It can’t be that hard, all you are doing after all is trying to meet someone.

As such, in this article I am going to try and give you some internet dating tips that make things easy again. After all, it should be fun, not scary or confusing. So here are my top 3 top internet dating tips:

Firstly, think about what you are doing. Most people jump straight into any old dating site, meet a million people and never really get anywhere as these people don’t have anything relevant to offer. So be a little different here and think about who you want to date and the experiences you want to share. Write it down if you like, to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Many people are full of advice about what you want, what type of people are right for you and what experiences are ok to have. The problem is that these people’s opinions more reflect what is right for them, not what is right for you. So if you listen to them rather than yourself, you are starting your dating process by looking for a date and experience that is suitable for someone else.

Listen to yourself, and be true to yourself. You’ll be ok. Specific dates and relationships may not work, but this is your journey to have, they are your mistakes and successes to have, they are your experiences to learn from, laugh and cry about.

Tip 2. Having noted the type of person and experience you want, only go to dating sites which cater for those specifics. Ignore the general dating sites that attract every man and his dog, only join niche ones which attract the people you are looking for. That is, use the dating site itself to qualify your potential dates.

General dating sites can be very hit and miss. You may end up spending all your time filtering through inappropriate emails and therefore have none left to date the people you like. So just use the niche sites. Some examples include: Asian dating sites, if eastern culture is important to you. Religious dating sites (Ie. Christian or Jewish) if morality in a partner is important. Adult dating sites if you are looking for a fun time, as opposed to a long time. There are all manner of niche sites, you’ll be amazed at their variety.

Tip 3. Put safety first in all cases. Remember you do not know a person until you’ve spent time getting to know them. Email/Chat/Webcam just doe not cut it. When you meet someone for the first time, treat it like a blind date. Ie. Do it in a public place and have friends ready to “rescue” you.

Dating has a number of stages, online dating adds a few extra stages. Each is a natural progression of “opening up” as trust is built. It starts with emails. Once trust is built, telephone numbers can be exchanged. Then when trust is built, dates in public places. Then, as more trust is built, private time together. There is no standard time scale for running through these progressions, its however fast the couple in the situation want it to be. If for any reason though, trust has not been built at one of the stages, do not progress to the next level of intimacy until it does. How can you ever feel safe if the trust doesn’t exit?

Once you have met someone in real life, you really should reset your expectations of them to ZERO. Pretend you never contacted them on the internet and start dating them in exactly the same way you would date someone you met in society proper.

Dating Someone With Kids

Internet dating has everything to do with convenience; the luxury of being able to log-on and tap into your dating life whenever you have a spare few minutes, the time-saving ability to weed through dozens, even hundreds, of potential dates in no time, the built-in organization of dating websites like Datepad, which allows you to keep up with multiple people and various forms of communication at once, it’s no wonder internet dating has quickly gone from new internet fad to universally-prevalent, completely legitimate social option.

We all have a limited amount of spare time. And one of the most commons reasons, or so I understand, is having children. I call them biology’s little time consumers. Lest I represent myself, I want to make it clear; I do NOT have children. I don’t pretend to have the knowledge to write an advice piece on what it is like to be a single parent as it relates to romance and sex.

I do, however, have single with baby friends and I myself have dipped into the single daddy dating pool once or twice. And from that, I have garnered a little experience about the ins and outs of dating someone with kids, which I now share with you.

Like kids

This should not even have to be mentioned, but unfortunately it does. If you do not enjoy being around kids and you do not want any of your own, think twice before dating someone packing reproductive baggage. There is always a possibility that you will grow attached to and even learn to like these particular children and there is nothing wrong with testing the waters. However, if you do not enjoy children, don’t get attached to your new found sweetie too quickly. His or her children aren’t going anywhere.

Be prepared to be second best at all times

New parents are often overheard saying that they thought they could never love someone more than their spouse; until they had a baby. That new bundle of joy just took over their heart. That’s just the way biology works. Dating someone who has strong emotional ties to someone else, in this case their child(ren), you need to be realistic and put your ego on the back burner. Their children come first, always.

Children have a Mom AND a Dad

Okay, so you’ve met an amazing man. Funny, smart, ambitious and good looking and you’re a smitten little kitten. You just love his adorable 5 year old and wonder of wonders, the little thing thinks you’re okay too. Enter the mom. No, not your sweetie’s mom; the baby mama.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes (rumor has it) separated co-parents have a completely respectful, amicable, even friendly relationship. If that’s the case, then breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe. No matter what the state of relation is between your beau/belle and the other parent of their children, there will be a certain amount of baggage to deal with. And this other person will always (hopefully, for the kids sake) be around in one way or another.

In other words, be secure. That’s really all there is to it. If you’re insecure to begin with, dealing with exes, coming in second in priorities and getting to know his or her kids will do your head in.

If you don’t confront and overcome those insecurities, the relationship won’t last. If you’re lucky, you will find yourself with someone who empathizes with your position, and can hold your hand through the tricky parts.
